Earl Duane Park, 75, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Murray, Utah—the same city where he was born on December 18, 1949.
Duane married his sweetheart Peggy on February 21, 1969, they were later sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple February 11, 1971. A devoted public servant, loving family man, and spirited outdoorsman, Duane lived a life marked by dedication, courage, and deep-rooted love for those around him.
Duane had a deep love and testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Duane served many roles within The Church selflessly and willingly. His selfless devotion to serve those around him was an unwavering theme throughout his life.
Duane’s life was one of service. After proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, he pursued a career that would define much of his legacy—firefighting. He earned an associate’s degree in Fire Science and went on to build a long and distinguished career within the Fire Department. Rising through the ranks with unwavering commitment and integrity, Duane retired as Assistant Chief. Throughout his tenure, he received multiple accommodations recognizing his bravery and leadership.
Duane’s heart belonged to the outdoors. Whether hunting in the mountains or riding horses across open trails, he found peace and purpose under wide skies. He loved camping trips with family and friends and could often be found exploring rugged terrain on an ATV. Known for his playful spirit and quick wit, Duane delighted in pranking those around him—always with a twinkle in his eye and laughter close behind.
Duane found his greatest joy in his family. He is survived by the love of his life and eternal sweetheart, Peggy (Butterfield) Park; their children Ryan (Janette) Park, Tim Park, Adam (Malissa) Park, and Emilee (Quinn) Poynor; six grandchildren: Dalton (Alex) Poynor, Tyler (Jessica), Garret (Rachael), Leah, Alyvia, and Reagan Park; and four great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Brinlee, Casey, and Stetson. Duane also leaves behind his siblings LeRoy (Pat) Park, Connie (Boyd) Bass, Max (Noreen) Park, Robert Park, and Eddie (Virginia) Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Naomi Park and his sister Betty Jo Delinger.
Earl Duane Park leaves behind a legacy of courage in service, warmth in friendship, devotion to family—and countless memories shared beneath starlit skies, campfires and laughter. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

Peggy and family, sending our sincere condolences at this difficult time. Duane was a great guy. He served his Heavenly Father, and community well.
Peggy, I still remember when you were our young women’s teacher and the lesson was on trust. You told one of the girls to trust you and just close her eyes and fall backward. I thought this can’t end well. Well unbeknownst to us Duane was in the back of room. As the girl closed her eyes we saw Duane come behind her and he caught her as she...

Duane was definitely a “one in a million” guy! We were blessed to serve with him and Peggy at Heber Valley Camp. He was a great leader in every situation we faced and made us all laugh many times with his witty charm. Our sincere condolences to our sweet friend, Peggy, and their family at this difficult time. Duane will remain in our wonderful memories of the times we shared.

Duane served my family as our Home Teacher after my divorce. He treated my girls as a grandfather remembering their birthdays and holidays. Thank you Peggy for supporting him while he helped my family. I’m sorry for your loss, but know he will be preparing for his family to join him.

Every now and than , a special person is born, Duane is one of these. Duane to me was a peace keeper, and could defuse any conflict with his humor. Duane put up one heck of strength to bring peace to his body. I am so sad to lose a great Brother , to Peggy and the family , remember the good times . I am so very sorry to not be able to be at service, but want to extend by love to the family. We have lost a great Brother. love you all. LeRoy
