Earl William Pilkington

Earl the Pearl. What a guy! I was 20 years old, a where do I fit in sailor. My family moved to Garden Grove. When my ship was in port I was able to be home. I didn't have a lot of connection to the ward or the Church. Priesthood meeting was at 7 AM and Earl was the Elders Quorum president. He was always a friendly smile offered a sincere welcome.

I loved Bishop Pilkington. He was my Bishop when I was in young womens and I loved spending time with him at girls camp and other activities. I remember coming up with the nickname "Gumby" for him at girls camp and it stuck. I always knew he loved the youth in our ward and I enjoyed his hugs everytime I saw him. I will never forget his influence in my life!

My wife Tania and I fondly remember Bishop Pilkington and the loving way in which he spoke of his wife Shirley. He was our friend when we were in the youth program, and our Bishop when we married in the Los Angeles Temple. On behalf of the Garden Grove 7th Ward, we extend our condolences to his wife and family.

We were sorry to hear of the passing of our dear Bishop Pilkington. We have such fond memories of him and you when you lived in our Garden Grove Seventh Ward. He was a great Bishop. May your memories of Earl bring you peace and comfort.

Dear Grandpa,
I am so sorry we didn't get to say good-bye, but not a day went bye when you were not in our thoughts and prayers. I now know that you will have no more pain and suffering and you are up in heaven looking down on us. We have all received a wonderful man for our guardian angel. I love you with all my heart. Until we meet again.
