Not sure what to say?

I had a memorable experience with Dr Schweppe when I was a student at KU. He very gently explained to me why I shouldn't have done something that I did. I didn't know anything about him at the time, but now I do, and I'm very impressed. My condolences to the family. Sue Atkins, PhD (C S Atkins)

On that summer day in 1968 when I happened by chance to walk along the lower hallway of Strong Hall I stopped for some reason. There was a hand lettered sign that said Computer Science Department....Come in. I had no idea what that was but entered anyway. Earl took me in, explained what he could and coerced me into finding a passion and a career. I went on to TA in the Department, and graduate in the first class of Masters students in 1970. Due to the kind help of Bill Bulgren, my advisor,...

I knew Earl as a grad student in KU's CS program, and then as staff in KU's Academic Computing Services. I enjoyed my work with him as he was always very affable, and he enjoyed a good laugh. I apologize for the following arcane recollections, but they are good memories for me. Our work to correct a miss-wired RACK0/TACK0 daisy-chained interrupt line on a CS dept. mini computer fixed a problem I had been fighting for some time. He also led the development of custom hardware for that same...

I will always treasure the time Bill and I had with Earl - and Mary, too, of course. I still miss them both dearly - today especially, I am missing Earl´s great smile and laugh. My thought are with you all. Janis Bulgren

What a great story what a great guy. He was a giant in his field but at the same time such a nice easy to talk to person.

Beautiful eulogy and what a fabulous life. His son Eric was my best friend in high school and still in touch with Eric. I always look him up when in Lawrence. I never figured out what exactly COMPUTER SCIENCE is. Clearly, Earl was a pioneer in that field.

What a wonderful eulogy. It appears that he had a wonderful life. We enjoyed meeting him however briefly. It wasn't hard to see that he was a fine, caring soul. Much love and condolences to the family.

Earl was a pioneer who inspired my brother, Lance, to a lifetime pursuit of computer graphics. I took a class from Earl before I learned of their connection and Lance returned to speak to an assembly of Earl's students that filled an auditorium I didn't know existed in Strong Hall. I think it helped my grade in the class - -but he lived the life of computers on the cutting edge of all that transpired from tubes to AI. He was always cheerful and a staunch supporter of the Hillcrest...
