Not sure what to say?

All of you that don't like Earl Wetzel raise your hands! Of coarse, no one raises their hand. Earl was that kind of person. In all the years that I knew him, I don't remember him saying anything bad about anyone. That is not a cliché, just the truth. In turn, I don't recall anyone not liking Earl. He adhered to the early principles of his family, the Academy, Bill Ridley, Gerry Brown, the College (it was not yet a university), and Bob Dylan! After college, I lost touch with Earl, as so often...

Earl,
Do you remember when we were at the Hotel Del Coronado, CA and you suddenly wanted to eat at the fancy, expensive restaurant? And I told you we couldn't go there, they might not let us in, the way we were both dressed and unless you changed out of your crazy t-shirt, or else put on a sweater??
Instead of doing either, (while I was in the restroom changing clothes) you paid a stranger, a teenager, $10 to come up to us in the lobby, five minutes later, and shout "Great...

Earl was my classmate and teammate. He was the captain of our B squad football team as sophomores and helped me with putting on my pads, since I had never played before. But mostly he was one of my closest and dearest friends. Like his father, he always had a smile on his face and a squint to his eyes. A quality athlete, coach, teacher, friend and person. He will be missed. Chas

There is a hole in my heart and the world is a colder place with Earl's departure. He gave me his friendship over the years. Always a free thinker and romantic, he challenged me as we discussed life, writing and literature sometimes to 3 am in the morning. One of many exam]les of his beautiful soul was how he surrendered his comfortable bed to me while he would sleep on a leaky air mattress leaving him aching in the morning on my last visit to San Luis Obisco. A visit was planned this March....

Earl, are you listening? I am sure you are, you were always listening. We shared so much - teaching, Football, our beloved hunting and life. You were an uncle to my three boys and my dear friend. I miss you so much. Don't know how North Dakota will ever be the same. Love you, Danny Boy

Dutch, Toni, and Franny,

I have fond memories of your brother Earl from our early years growing up in the St. Luke's/ Linwood neighborhood. Even though Earl was a few yeard older he always treated our gang the same as his close buddies. He took time to visit with us when we were hanging around your house. He was genuinely interested in how we were doing and looked out for our well being. He always had a smile and the coach in him often offered some sage advice on how to properly make a...
