Just a Working Man
Lynda Mari was painting her porch last fall when she was approached by a construction worker with an extension cord.

"Hello, I'm Eddie," he said. "You mind if I borrow your power?"

Eddie D'Atri was a handsome, muscular fellow. "I told him, 'You can borrow anything you want," Ms. Mari said the other day.

She asked him if he was a fireman. "I just felt it," she said. "Something just told me." He told her no, he was just a working man, but she didn't believe it. Her brother is a fireman, and something deep inside her made her fearful of falling in love with a guy like that.

But she did. They were engaged June 30.

Mr. D'Atri was 38. He studied nursing and was a lieutenant at Squad 1 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He was crowned Mr. Staten Island in 1987.

Sadly, steel is stronger than muscle, and Mr. D'Atri leaves behind a broken heart.

We called Eddie `Tracy´ while growing up. He was always larger than Life and enjoyed spreading joy to everyone. We were his Alabama side of the family. He was my second cousin. -Actor Ray Macon/ Atlanta

Remembering Eddie on the 20th anniversary of 9/11...

Hey edward,
I am terribly sorry for your loss on 9/11/2001, but thank you for your sacrifice that awful day.

56 today! How life would have been so very different if you were still physically here but I thank you for always being with us, watching over, protecting and guiding. Leaving your favorite prayer (Psalm 23) with birthday wishes to the most handsome big brother a sister could ask for.

Psalm 23 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my...

You would have turned 55 yesterday, hoping you heard all our wishes and felt all the love being sent to you. Losing you, Anthony and most recently "Gus" is a constant reminder to stop waiting a day, week or month to say something special, just a hello, to share emotions or just pick up the phone and call someone, because tomorrow may never happen. I love you Eddie and will always be thankful to you, for loving me.

Eddie, 2016 another year has passed 15 of them now. It still seems like yesterday as we watched the attack on tv. You, like Nicky & Cousin Louis were all off duty but still ran before being called in. The Job was your life! You were quoted as saying "That's the way you wanted to go out!" and you did, doing what you loved best! AJ & Michael miss you and the close attention you gave them. They still need you to watch over them! I pray to you to do so! Miss You! Love, Tony (Poppa
