Eddie "Dicky" Jackson Jr.

Eddie "Dicky" Jackson, Jr., passed away on October 11, 2021 at the age of 70. Dicky was a dedicated firefighter for the Baton Rouge Fire Department for twenty two years before retiring as a Fire Captain in 1999. He then continued his entrepreneurial endeavors as a business owner until his death. He was a hard worker, who believed in the honesty of good works and helping others. For fifteen years, Dicky was accompanied by his beloved dogs Shadow and Itty Bitty, who stayed by his side throughout every work day. Dicky was a humble man of good integrity, who was loved and respected by many. He was charismatic with a big personality. Dicky and his wife owned Kidd Creek, where they raised many champion thoroughbreds and also served as a rescue site for miss-placed horses. He was a member of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Horse Association and the Cattlemen Association. He also donated retired thoroughbreds to be adopted by New Vocations. Dicky will be remembered for his generosity and kindness towards others. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Beverly Carlene Jackson; five children, Taura Fudge (Joey), Joe Jackson, Brandi Wilks (Jason), Andy Jackson (Rebecca), and John Jackson; eight grandchildren, Morgan, Kaitlyn, Breanna, Hunter, Dylan, Kirsten, Claire, and Camryn; two siblings, Lillian Connell, and Tom Jackson (Christy); mother-in-law, Sybil Smith Day; and sister-in-law, Connie LeBlanc (Kenneth), and his beloved Great Dane T'Too. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie, Sr. and Beatrice Higgins Jackson. Dicky was also preceded in death by his loving K-9 companions T'Macy and T'Boo. The family would like to give a special thank you to his close friend, Albert "Albee" Cernich, for his support, friendship and dedication. The family would like to also thank Virginia Delatte, Carol Armstrong, Dr. Culotta, Dr. Zellmer, his PA, Jennifer Vosburg and his nurse, Jessica Adams for their care and support. Thank you Delta Equine World and Dina Duplantis, DVM, for caring for their treasured horses with love. Some of his beloved thoroughbreds were Farewell Madrid, Farewell Taxbreak, Ide Better Win, Chance of Rena, Our Foolish Girl, Smile Again Betsy, Robin's Sport, and My Boy Coy. We would also like to remember Champ; Dicky's Palameno, Iggy, T'Grey, and TNT, who just recently passed away at forty two years old. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Callihan, Cameron Callihan, Connor Callihan, Anthony Lazarus, Leevan Zedlitz, Garreth Olinde,TJ Jackson, Tucker Alonza, Tom Jackson, Kenneth "Muff" LeBlanc, and Junior Melancon. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 9 am until funeral service at 11:30 am. A private burial will take place at a later date.
