†Marine Sgt. Edgar E. Lopez On one of his last family outings, Edgar E. Lopez walked the beach with his 4-year-old daughter in search of seashells and got on hands and knees to patiently build a perfect sandcastle. "He was so full of life, and he was having so much fun with the kids, he was like a kid himself," said his wife, Rosie. Lopez, 27, of Los Angeles, was killed in enemy action Aug. 28 in Iraq''s Babil province. He was based at Camp Lejeune. Lopez loved to have friends over for barbecues and watch sports on TV with his 2-year-old son, Edgar Jr. _ in matching Raiders jerseys. Lopez was a dedicated Marine in his second tour of duty in Iraq, but he planned to leave when his enlistment expired in three years, his wife said. He talked about becoming a police officer or firefighter. "In his letters, he would say he wanted to get out because he was always gone and he wasn''t watching his kids grow up," she said.

Thank you for being a friend to me when I needed it. You are one of the reasons I cry when I see the beautiful American Flag. I still pray for your family. I miss you brother.
