MM1 Edgar C. Lay, 82, USN(Ret), Vietnam Era, Riverside/RNC - 17 JUL 18

The family of MM1 Edgar C. Lay, age 82, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend the funeral services for their Hero, it would be our honor to do so.

Edgar C. Lay first enlisted in the US Army in 1956; then enlisted in the Navy on 03 July, 1959 and served over 20 years as a Machinist Mate, he was honorably discharged and retired on 31 Jan 81 at the rank of MM1, Petty Officer 1st Class E-6. During his time in the Navy he was on the USS Frank Knox and the USS Roark and traveled to Hawaii, Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong and Australia. He served during the Vietnam War Era.

After retiring from the US Navy, Edgar continued supporting his country by taking a job with the federal government as a civilian employee at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards from 1981 to 1996 when he retired again.

After retiring a second time this gave him more time for things he loved including drag racing, NASCAR races, car shows, and restoring his pride and joy, his 1967 Chevy Camaro Super Sport. But most of all Edgar loved spending time with his family.

Left to honor Edgar and remember his love are his wife Margie, and their two children, their daughter Barbara and Son Roland, and 2 grand daughters Savannah & Sydney, As well as his sisters' Rachel Halcomb, Wilhelmina Gywn, Linda Measell and brother Don Lay. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Sr. and Birdie Lay as well as his two other sisters, Phyllis Schultz and Louise Phillips.
