Edith Everett Obituary

Circleville Edith Lynn (Defenbaugh) Everett, 86, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025, surrounded by her family at the Inpatient Care Center under the compassionate care of Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. Born on October 22, 1938, to William Edson and Gwendolen (Lewis) Defenbaugh, she grew up as the youngest of four sisters on the family farm in Salt Creek Township. Edith, who was also known to many as Lynn, graduated from Salt Creek High School in 1956 and earned her degree from The Ohio State University in 1961. On June 10, 1961, she married the love of her life, Phillip Michael Everett. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter, sharing 60 wonderful years until Phil's passing in July 2021. A dedicated member of her community, Edith, was actively involved in 4-H, serving as an advisor for the Salt Creek Sew and Serve 4-H Club. She contributed to the Pickaway County Farm Bureau, participated in the Pumpkin Show Home Arts and Crafts, and volunteered with the Blood Mobile. She also served for many years on the Logan Elm Board of Education. She spent many years researching her family's genealogy, which led to her working for the Pickaway County Historical Society. Her faith was central to her life, and she was a devoted member of Community United Methodist Church until she left Circleville in 2019. She enjoyed a few years at the Vandalia United Methodist Church and the last two years at Faith Community United Methodist Church in Xenia, OH. Edith had a passion for clothing and design, which led her to a career in retail, including roles at Christopher's Boutique, Jacobson's Department Store in Columbus. A talented seamstress, she lovingly crafted her own wedding dress and later, those of both her daughters. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, relishing every moment with her sisters, nieces, nephews, and especially her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughters. She is survived by her daughters, Meg (Mark) Brumfield of Troy, OH, and Suzanne (Jeff) Bandy of Xenia, OH; five grandchildren, Kale (Emily) Bandy, Kara (Angel) Paredes, Hailey (Ryan) Dunn, Meredith (Peyton) Smith, and Sam Brumfield; and four great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Susan Ahern and Shere Everett, brother-in-law, Dale Everett, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Phil; her parents; her husband's parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Everett, her three sisters and their husbands, Lois and Robert (Sandy) Jones, Barbara and Lew Meade, and Mary Ann and Dalton DeLong; as well as her nephew, Alex Jones. Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 East Main St., Circleville, OH. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Community United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pickaway St., Circleville, OH, officiated by Rev. Marie Smith. Edith will be laid to rest next to her husband at Tarlton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lynn's memory to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, Community United Methodist Church, Vandalia United Methodist Church, or Faith Community United Methodist Church in Xenia, OH. Edith Lynn's kindness, warmth, and love for her family will be deeply missed, but her legacy of faith and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Edith Defenbaugh Everett
