Edith Morris Obituary

Edith May Burnett Morris passed away November 2, 2016 at North Shore Manor in Loveland, CO. She was born May 16, 1913 in Los Angeles, CA. Her family had moved from the Brighton, CO area to CA for work prior to her birth. They returned to Barr Lake, CO when Edith was two years old. Edith was raised near Barr Lake and attended school in Brighton. After her family moved to Boulder, she graduated from Boulder High School at age 16. She then attended Colorado University where she studied Fine Arts and received her education degree. Right after college Edith taught school in eastern Colorado, boarding with a local family. She taught grades 1-8. Most of her adult life she taught 2 nd or 3 rd grade in the Commerce City area. Edith married Lester A Morris on July 25, 1937 and they resided in Henderson, CO. They were parents to two daughters: Marilyn Eileen Morris Blacker and Janet Sherrill Morris Davies. She is very proud of her five grand-children and ten great grand-children. She and her husband moved to the Longmont area in 1978. After retiring from teaching, Edith volunteered at the Longmont Museum. She and her husband had the privilege of traveling with their RV for 25 years and were able to visit all 50 states plus the UK and the Caribbean making numerous friends along the way. In addition to teaching Edith was active in the Henderson Congregational Church and currently attends Hygiene United Methodist Church. She practiced her gift of art throughout her adult life focusing on landscape paintings which all of her family enjoy. She participated in painting a mural inside the Longmont Senior Center. Edith was an accomplished seamstress and made most of her daughters' clothes. She loved the time she lived and spent in the mountains and welcomed any opportunity to go for a drive in the mountains as long as she was able. After the passing of her husband, a marriage of 63 years, Edith continued to live independently until she was almost 101 years of age, to the amazement of many, showing her strong determination to maintain her independence. Her strong, gentle spirit and independent nature have served her well. She lived at Cinnamon Park Assisted Living in Longmont for 18 months after which she lived at North Shore Health in Loveland for a year until her passing. She was loved by all her caregivers. Private family graveside services will be held at Foothills Gardens of Memory. Memorial contributions in her honor can be made to Hygiene United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 76, Hygiene, CO 80533. Edith was a very gracious lady. I am blessed to have known Lester and Edith and cherish the memories of our talks and "my lessons from Lester in finance and water law."
I was especially glad to visit with Edith at her 100th birthday party. Gloria Wilson
