Aberdeen: Mass of Christian burial for Edith C. O'Brien, 90, Aberdeen, will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 Second Ave. N.E. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating.

Liturgical wake followed by a rosary will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W.

Visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary and one hour prior to the funeral on Monday at the church.

Edith passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, S.D.

Edith C. Pfeiffer was born Aug. 12, 1919, to August J. and Theresa C. (Bauman) Pfeiffer in Aberdeen, S.D. She attended Aberdeen Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High. Edith started working with her father in the family business, Western Printing Company, in high school and continued until she retired in 1981.

Edith and Frank F. O'Brien were united in marriage May 30, 1941, in Aberdeen, S.D. They were in Milwaukee, Wis., while Frank served in the United States Navy and it was there that both daughters were born. After his discharge from the Navy, they moved back to Aberdeen and made it their home.

Edith was active in many service organizations including the V.F.W. Auxiliary, past president of Aberdeen Zonta Club and the Aberdeen Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, bridge player and active with St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Preceding Edith in death are her parents; husband; one infant brother; one sister, Bernice Huneger; two great-granddaughters, Sara Lynn Hoon and Madeline Alice Dods.

Grateful to have shared in Edith's life are her daughters, Sharon (Barney) Bryant of Warner, S.D., Jeannine Hoon and special friend, Dennis Dayton, of Aberdeen, S.D.; her brother, Joe A. (Corrine) Pfeiffer of Aberdeen, S.D.; and sister, Mary Jean “Jeannie” Hulse of LaQuinta, Calif.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her family.
