Time has passed. Events have happened, good and bad. The fact that our memories can block current events is both a blessing and maybe a curse.. i choose blessing as I hold dear my time with Mrs Rode while in high school. There are in fact many teachers but as in every occupation there are few who excel. Edith welcomed me to Lewiston, Idaho in the 1980's, when I moved there to teach at Lewis-Clark State. She became my mentor and dear friend. Her spirited and unflinching approach to life's joys and challenges inspired my own personal growth. For the rest of her life, I looked forward to receiving letters from Edith, each one filled with rich descriptions of large and small issues, each one thought-provoking, touching, engaging and sometimes hilarious. I was a student at EPHS in the 60's and had Ms Rode as a teacher. The lessons she taught went far beyond the classroom. I am proud to say that she has been one of the greatest influences on my life. She will always have a prominent place among my memories.
