I worked with Edie in the 60s. A recent look at the history of NTL a day ago informed me that she and Charlie had both passed. I was stunned. Although we had lost touch, I never forgot her. I was 24, she was 27, when we worked for Richard Beckhard. We shared stories, gags, and viewpoints. She went on to an illustrious career in her field; i segued into publishing and wound up at The New York Times. Edie, I just shared news of your passing with a most humble and honorable friend who surprised me with his reply, below. I think he must have grasped the essence of who you are to me and to so many others. First, the Latin, then the English:

The memorial service for Charlie and Edie in Columbia was so fitting. When Becky and Kim spoke I saw Edie standing before us.

Unfortunately I just learned of the passing of two of my favorite people on this earth, Charlie & Edie Seashore. I last saw Edie seven years ago in Bethel where she razzed me about my whimping out during a blizzard that she said that I brought with me to Bethel. I was fortunate to have last hugged and talked with Charlie in Palo Alto in early January, days before his passing. I had the opportunity to work with Charie & Edie at NTL. My first experience in Bethel, ME was hard. I had never been to a place like this before but Charlie & Edie got me through it. After that, wanted to go every summer to work in the office. They will truely be missed.

Edie and Charlie changed my life.

To Edie and Charlie's Family, Having had the good fortune to come to San Francisco for Charlie's Memorial, it was so wonderful to see Edie again. I was looking forward to visiting them both on my visits to the area. I had the chance to talk with her, hug her, told her I loved her, and told her I would be calling to check on her, knowing the loss of her beloved "Charles" was very difficult for her. Edie and Charlie provided me with many breakthrough moments. They are the most-often quoted of all of my professors and I was very saddened to hear of their loss. They will certainly be missed in life, but will live on in the work that we all continue to do because of our association with them.
