Edie and I were grad students together at Northwestern in the early 70s. She was such a witty, enthusiastic, and delightful friend. I feel privileged to have known her. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.

Dear Joe,
I am in Florida and just heard(from Earl Wendell) of Edie's death. She was a great woman and I am familiar with the loss that you are experiencing. She had great talent and a terrific sense of humor. (I remember her saying she enjoyed being with medical students because they always had clean hands and fingernails)
When I return to Illinois in May, I'd like to get together again.
Best Regards,
Gene Lawrence

Edie presided over a round table of grad students in the library lounge at Northwestern when we were all there together working on our PhDs. Those afternoon breaks always featured lots of laughs, mostly inspired by Edie's wit. What a warm, kind, inventive and hilarious person! I am sure I am one of many who recall Edie with great fondness.

Joe, I am so sorry about your loss. Edith was a spitfire and a brilliant, talented woman and the world won't be the same without her. My wife, my mother-in-law and myself were big fans of her books.
My condolences to you and the rest of your family.
