Edna Mae Hurlbut Bushey
St. Albans
Edna Bushey passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Northwestern Medical Center on Thursday, December 2, 2004 following a long period of declining health. She was 87 years old.
Edna was born in St. Albans, Vermont, on November 11, 1917, the daughter of George and Viola Hurlbut. She attended Holy Angels School for all her school years and graduated from Holy Angels Commercial Class in 1935. She was a life-long member of Holy Angels Parish in St. Albans.
On November 10, 1938, she married Roland A. Bushey, the light of her life. Roly predeceased her on October 28, 1997, a month before their 59th wedding anniversary. For 52 years they made their home on Lower Welden Street. Their kitchen table was a favorite gathering spot for many people over the years.
Edna was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When her children were in elementary school, she was an active member of the Holy Angels Mothers Club and was involved in the local Cub Scouting program as a Den Mother.
At the age of 50, Edna succeeded in her first business venture as co-owner of Sylette’s Ladies and Children’s Shop in St. Albans. After retiring from her shop, she engaged in many hobbies, among which were flower arranging and ceramics. She will be long remembered for her gift collages, spiritual booklets of encouragement, and the many lovely cakes she baked and decorated for her family and friends’ weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries. She had a special love of angels and had a large collection of them. She was always there for her family, and for countless people who benefited from her wisdom and counsel.
Edna’s three children and their spouses, Ken and Linda Bushey, Tom and Sandi Bushey, and Millie and Will Boyd, all of St. Albans, will dearly miss her. “Nunna” will always have a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren and their spouses, Dan and Deb Bushey, David and Amy Bushey, Melissa and Brian Morrison, Karen McFeeters, Sarah and David Allerton, Jenna and Jeremy Bushey, her step-grandchildren Kim and Don Patnaude, Tammy Choquette and family, and Kris Bullock and family. She will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Thomas and Ellen Allerton, Joshua Morrison, and Sadie, Carly, Jessie, Skyler and Cameron Bushey.
She also leaves many loving and loyal friends, whom her family wishes to thank for their kindness and support during her difficult last years.
Edna was predeceased by her husband, Roland A. Bushey, her parents, a sister, Millie Hurlbut Pfanstiel, and brothers Edmund, Arnold and Leonard Hurlbut.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 6, at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 So.
