Landon, Edna Mae
1939 - 2021
On Monday, December 6, 2021, Edna Mae Landon, loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend, passed away at age 82.
Edna was born in Cumberland, KY on May 25, 1939 to Florence Durham and Ulysses Shacklford. After graduation from Ross High School in Ross, OH, she was one of two scholarship recipients of Champion Paper Company in Hamilton, OH. Scholarship funds assisted her attendance at Wilmington College in Wilmington, OH where she met her husband of 62 years, Jim Landon.
Forgoing her last two years of college to marry, she accompanied Jim to Ft Hood, TX where he served his US Army obligation. They then lived in small communities of Ohio before moving to Cleveland in 1964. After 15 years of residency and the birth of 3 daughters in Cleveland, OH, a career change for Jim moved the family to Friendly Acres neighborhood in Greensboro, NC, where they established many lifelong friendships.
One of her greatest achievements was being a loving mother to her three daughters. Her encouragement for them to complete their college degrees was of utmost importance. In pursuit of completing her own college education, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Information Systems from UNC-Greensboro in 1986.
Her passion for residential real estate led her to become a real estate broker for the next twenty years.
In 2006, she and Jim continued their affiliation with the Episcopal Church as members of St. Barnabas in Greensboro, NC where she served on the vestry as a Junior Warden. In 2013, they then transferred to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in High Point when she and Jim moved to River Landing at Sandy Ridge Retirement Community.
Edna's hobbies included reading, shopping, playing bridge, gardening, interior decorating, real estate sales and international travels.
Her challenges with limited vision in her later years did not hinder her from living her life to the fullest. Many residents of River Landing can attest to her kindness and positive outlook on life. She was still able to listen to her romance and mystery novels with her books on tape.
The Landon family wishes to express a sincere Thank You to the caring staff of Hospice of the Piedmont, BrightStar and Piedmont Home Care agencies. We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Pebble Beach Skilled Nursing Unit of River Landing.
She is survived by husband, Jim Landon, daughters Michelle (Chuck) Butler, Cheryl Landon, Pam (Tony) LaVene. Grandchildren Jeremy Butler, Jessica (Tyler) Swann, Hayden and Jason Fivecoat, Kaitlyn, Hannah and Samuel LaVene and Great-granddaughter Maren Swann.
Memorial services will be held at St Mary's Episcopal Church 108 W. Farriss Avenue High Point, NC on January 8, 2022 at 2 PM with reception to follow.
