Edna Wankum, age 91, of North Little Rock, died Saturday, October 29, 2005 after courageously battling Alzheimer’s disease for nine years. She was a retired bookkeeper for Planters Lumber Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Wankum, son Gerald Wankum, parents Fred and Vida Becker, brother Alfred Becker, sister Clara Bloom, and one grandson, Keith Wankum.
She is survived by one son, David Wankum and wife Mary of North Little Rock; three daughters, Mary Ellen Knowlton of San Antonio, Deanie Rowe and husband Bob of Little Rock, and Margie Abdin and husband Ziad of Sherwood; grandchildren, Angie Duncan, Jeff and Mark Wankum, Brian Knowlton, Maria Bercher, Justin Rowe, Jennifer Lee, Sammer and Jamal Abdin; great grandchildren, Stephanie Duncan, Taylor and Zoe Wankum, Tyler, Cole, and Dillon Bercher, Caleb and Katie Rowe, and baby Abdin.
Vigil service will be at North Little Rock Funeral Home Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 19th and Maple St., North Little Rock, with interment at Calvary Cemetery. Rev. Warren Harvey and Rev. Ochieze will be officiating.
Edna was a member of the Ladies’ Altar Guild and Catholic Daughters. She was a remarkable wife and mother, and will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to Arkansas Hospice for their care and compassion during these last days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, Arkansas Hospice, or St. Patrick’s Catholic School.
