Our families in Grand Rapids were good friends for many years. I knew Brooks and his Dad from after WW II years, and became a sailing competitor of Brooks when I started sailing Snipes in 1948. I always considered him a fine sportsman and top sailor, if you could finish ahead of him in a race, you knew you had done real well.
