Edward T. Barnish, age 79, of Carmichaels, Pa. and formerly of Crucible, Pa., died Thursday evening, April 3, 2003 at the Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa. after a lengthy illness. He was born April 27, 1923 in Chartiers, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Stephen and Mary Gregas Barnish. Mr. Barnish served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the European theater of war with Company H, the 142nd Infantry Regiment of the 36th Infantry Division. Mr. Barnish was a German prisoner of war and received several medals including the Bronze Star. In 1978, he retired from the Gateway Mine. Mr. Barnish enjoyed fishing, wood working, cabinet making and metal detecting and was a member of the U. M. W. A. Gateway Local 6330 and a 50 year member of the Filer-Sadlek American Legion Post 954. He resided in Carmichaels since 1998. His wife, Helen B. Pribula Barnish, whom he married on June 29, 1957, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mary B. Simkovic and her husband, Jerry of Carmichaels; two grandchildren, Justin and Matthew Simkovic; a brother, John Barnish of Clarksville, Pa.; three sisters, Catherine Frketich and Frances Elyes, both of McKeesport, Pa. and Rose Yeager of Pulaski, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Barnish, who died in childhood and Stephen Barnish and three sisters, Agnes Barnish, who died in childhood, Ann Rendulic and Evelyn Baker.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing and interment will be private at Greene County Memorial Park. The Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, F.
