Peaslee Funeral Home - Farmington Obituary

New Durham

Edward R. “Ted” Carroll, Jr., age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday January 31, 2021 in Rochester, New Hampshire. He was born in Salem, MA to Doris ‘Skippy’ Allen and Edward Robert Carroll.  Marblehead was home for all Ted’s life until relocating to New Durham, NH in 2016.

Ted had a love and tremendous talent for woodworking. He spent many hours puttering and building in his workshop building and restoring furniture, creating treasured memories for his children and grandchildren. He was extremely handy and spent most of his free time working around his yard and home. He loved watching all sports, especially college football, and was a great fan of The Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins. He also loved to cook and was an intuitive chef, creating many family favorites including shrimp pasta, potato rolls, and Christmas mac and cheese. He was a skilled sailor and grew up sailing and fishing the waters in and around Marblehead. He loved being on the water and took this love to many other places in New England.

Ted owned and operated Woodman Insurance in Salem, MA for many years after taking over the business from his father, merging with Soucy Insurance shortly before his retirement in 2010.  He proudly served on the Board of Directors of Children’s Friend & Family Services in Salem for many years.

Although Ted could be a private person, he had a unique and endearing way of connecting with all the people he met and was always a gracious host.  His friends, family and neighbors all have countless funny stories to share about Ted and to remember him by.

Ted is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan W. Carroll; a sister, Deane C. Billings (Spike), of Pinehurst, North Carolina; four children, Wendy L. Carroll of Salt Lake City, Utah; Jennifer C. Osborn (Todd) of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Nathan A. Carroll (Charlotte) of Swampscott, MA; Meghan S. Carroll (Kate) of Greenfield, MA; and six grandchildren.

Ted will be warmly remembered by many cousins, friends, nieces & nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the  Philip P Clark Scholarship Foundation- National Grand Bank, 61 Pleasant St. Marblehead, Ma 01945 Attn: James Nye

A harborside service will be held in Marblehead in Spring 2021 when pandemic conditions allow for travel and safe gatherings.

Not sure what to say?

To the Carroll family especially Sue, Nathan and Meghan
I want to offer you my warmest sympathy in this time of sorrow. Please remember his spirit and knowledge will be a lasting memory that will always be part of you all. Susan Finigan

I remember fun times with the Carroll family when the kids were young, sledding in New Hampshire and hanging out in Marblehead at Christmas time. Ted, along with Og Dog, always got the crowd laughing with jokes and memories. What I most remember about Ted is that "He did it his way". I extend my most sincere sympathies to Sue, Meagan, Nathan and the extended family. Lois Budrose

Sue, Nathan, Meghan, Wendy and Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear about Ted. He was a good guy with a great sense of humor. I can picture him talking and smiling and telling a story. He is at peace and watching over all of you. Sue, Ted is with Pat and Barb probably telling some good jokes. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Ted is a star in the night sky.

So many unforgettable memories that we can all relate to. His humorous style, and direct approach to everything was unequaled.
Godspeed Eddie

Sue
