Edward Paul D'Souza was born July 19, 1935, to Orfelinda and Gerard Bruno D'Souza in Goa, India. He earned his M.D. from King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, India, in 1959. After completing his residency in general surgery in England, he continued his cardiovascular and thoracic surgery training at the Hospital for Sick Children Great Ormond Street, London, the National Heart Hospital, London, and the Brompton Chest Hospital, London, from 1960 to 1966.
Dr. D'Souza married Heather D'Souza on July 9, 1965, in Abadan, Iran. In 1971, they moved to Houston, Texas, where he worked as a Fellow with Dr. Denton Cooley at the Texas Heart Institute.
