Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Devine, Edward F., age 82, fortified with the Sacraments of the Holy Mother Church on November 18, 2013 after a brief illness, at Mercy Hospital (Creve Coeur), surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was a man of few words, but he was loved and respected by many. A life-long resident of Eureka, MO. He was a faithful follower of our Lord and a life-long parishioner at Most Sacred Heart in Eureka, from where he was baptized and received his first Holy Communion and Confirmation. He married his sweetheart and love of his life Helen Devine (nee Dulz), they were able to celebrate 57 years of togetherness this past June. They were blessed with three sons, Ronald Francis (Diane) Devine, Michael James (Patsy) Devine and the late Edward John Devine. He is survived by seven grandchildren; John Gransbach, Timothy Devine, Christopher (Jen) Devine, Courtney (Brent) Vogt, Daniel Devine, Julie Devine and Melissa Devine. Four great grandchildren Jack Devine, Dominic Devine, James Devine and Baby Vogt (due April 2014). He is survived by an older brother, John Devine of Pacific. Ed is survived by special cousins, Joseph and William Devine and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and friends. He will always be loved and dearly missed by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents John Glennon and Dorothy Devine (nee Glowczcski).

Ed was a staunch conservative and a very proud veteran who served our country in the US Army from 1954-1956. He retired from Fred Weber, Inc. in 1996 after 40 years of dedicated service. He was most proud of his service and dedication to the Knights of Columbus Council 3511, for which he was a member for 64 years.

Ed was known as a reserved, hard working, loyal and devoted family man. His love of family and church are legendary, as well as his love of working the land and tending cattle on his farm in Pacific, MO and ranch in Umas, TX. He was instrumental in the start-up and tremendous success of the Sacred Heart's lenten fish fry's. A generous man with this time, and always ready to lend a helping hand.

Services: Funeral Mass at Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eureka, Thursday, 10:00 a.m. Interment St. Bridget Cemetery, Pacific. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Masses or Most Sacred Heart School Tuition Fund. Visitation at the church, Wednesday 4-8 p.m. A service of the SCHRADER Funeral Home - Eureka.
