Edward James Dunn
November 17, 1956 – June 28, 2025
Edward James Dunn passed away peacefully at home on June 28, 2025, with his youngest son Aiden at his side.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Ed was the oldest son of Edward Francis Dunn and Helen Marie Albright (Dunn). He built a life rooted in hard work, quiet devotion, and love for his family.
Ed worked for Gelson’s Markets for over 35 years, where he was respected for his commitment, integrity, and steady presence.
He had three children—Edward Zachary, Joel Zeius, and Lupe Zebryan—with Eleanor Prado, and later two children—Aiden Vance and McKenna Dee—with Nancy Dee Dunn. He remained a guiding figure in their lives and took pride in being a father.
In addition to raising his family, Ed worked as a dedicated housekeeper for Bill and Charlotte Hoyt. After Charlotte’s passing in 2015, he became Bill’s full-time caregiver, continuing to care for him until Bill’s death in January 2022. His loyalty and compassion during those years reflected his selfless and dependable nature.
Ed loved animals, especially dogs, and had a soft spot for every one he welcomed into his life. He also had a deep affection for hummingbirds, finding joy and peace in watching them hover and dart around his garden. He cherished the Coldwater Canyon house, which held special meaning for him as a place of comfort and connection.
One of his favorite pastimes was camping at Dinkey Creek, California, alongside his lifelong best friend Rick Washington. He brought all his children there over the years, sharing the wonder of nature and taking them to the famous “slicks”—a natural water pool where they could splash and play, making memories that would last a lifetime.
He is survived by his children Edward Zachary Dunn, Lupe Zebryan Dunn, Joel Zeius Dunn, Aiden Vance Dunn, and McKenna Dee Dunn; and by his beloved grandchildren: Owen Lockwood Dunn, Lola Malena Mokihana Burns, River Ryan Dunn, Pierce Chael Dunn, Adalynn Brielle Dunn, Maverick Wolfe Dunn, and Juniper Rose Dunn.
Ed will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, deep love for his family, loyalty to friends, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of care, laughter, and the kind of steady presence that made everyone around him feel safe and loved.
