Not sure what to say?

Mary,
I had no idea Mike had passed on. I am so very sorry. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to you and the children. When we arrived in Georgia, you all were so kind in terms of helping us assimilate. While we've lost touch since you moved to PA and then NC and we've since moved to NY, we still remember you all so fondly and would love to reconnect and know that you and the children are ok. Please know that we will keep you all in our prayers and thoughts. Peace and blessings, The...

Mary and family,
I was saddened to read of Mike's passing in the fall W&M Alumni magazine. I lived on Mike's freshman hall "Yates 3rd North" 1980-81, but unfortunately did not keep in touch over the years. However, I am not at all surprised to read about Mike's great accomplishments - both career and more importantly with your family. I always knew he would go far, as he was one of the most down-to-earth (and funniest) guys I knew on the floor.
One of my fondest memories was our...

Mike was my advisor while in graduate school at Vanderbilt University. I enjoyed his zeal for research and benefitted immensely from his mentoring.

God bless you, Mike. Prayers for you and your family and friends.

I was a friend of Michael's when we were kids at Ridge Baptist Church. He always kept me laughing. The traits others have described were evident even at that early age. I am sorry to hear of his passing. He accomplished great things in his short time here and will be missed. My thoughts go out to his family on the loss of a great man.

I am colleague of Mike's -- I knew him through his work and through conversations at meetings. What a wonderful man -- I really valued his energy, humor, and his commitment to the well-being of children.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was my master's mentor at UNC SPH and I am very sorry to hear about his passing (I only just heard). I pray for comfort for his family, especially his kids, at this time of loss. I know how hard it is to lose a parent too soon. My sincere condolences.

Mike was a great inspiration to me both because of his unbelievable academic productivity and because of his humanism and commitment to science. he had a funny way of pointing out the silliness of self-serving opinions that were being disguised as science. he also broke through disciplinary walls between economics and psychology, and found new content areas for innovative applications of econometric methods. but he was most of all a principled person who tried to live the best that he could...

Mary and Family,
I had was lucky to share an office with MIke for a year while I was at Carolina. One day I casually mentioned that I had not yet seen Gone with the Wind. Before I knew it you, Mary, and he had invited a whole group of us to your home so we could all watch it together. I will never forget his kindness, intelligence, and joie de vivre, or that night. My heart goes out to you all.

To Michael's family and friends, I had the privilege of working with Michael as my associate editor of the scientific journal Developmental Psychology. I was touched by his brilliancy, his tenacity, his relentless humor and his commitment to families and children. I am very grateful that I got to know him. I am sorry for your loss, Cynthia Garcia Coll
