Not sure what to say?

Gurukirn Khalsa fna Joan Paulus. I was a student of Ed´s at Pomona. He was one of the best teachers I have ever had. I remember when he brought Gary Snyder to the school. It was a truly magical experience.

Thank you Uncle Eddie for teaching me how to think outside the box. Your creativity, inquisitive mind and quirky spirit was such a blessing to know and experience as a child. It was even more fascinating to experience as an adult. I want you to know I looked curiously forward to your gifts every holiday - they created some of my favorite memories, and I do credit those annual experiences with expanding my mind from a young age. I am grateful for your impact, and for the way I saw you love my...

I am so sorry to learn of Dr. Germain`s passing. I was a student of his in Rennes France in 1982. A brilliant intellect and at the same time kind and nurturing. Uncommon traits in the same person. An inspiration for those of us who were lucky enough to be in his classroom. Dusting off my copy of Ulysses in his honor this evening. Matt Caffrey

Dr. Germain was one of my favorite teachers when I was a student at Andover. He inspired me to love writing and literature. When I was unsure of myself, he helped me to believe I could be a great writer. Recently I included him in my dedication of my dissertation because all these years later, I remember the impact he had on me. All the appreciation for him and condolences to his family.

I was a student of Ed's at SYA Rennes in 1982-'83. Ed challenged me to become a better writer, and inspired my ongoing love of English literature. I remember him as the most impactful and memorable teacher of any subject I had during my high school years. Ed, Sara and Valerie are such kind-hearted, wonderful people with whom I feel honored to have gotten to know during our year in Rennes. All my blessings to the Germain family.

To Ed´s family: I am so sorry to learn of his passing. He was my teacher at Pomona College beginning in 1969. I am dedicating a book to him and would love to know where to send a copy. If anyone in Ed´s family is seeing this message, please let me know. thank you. I send my heartfelt appreciation for his life and condolences to the family and friends.

A wonderful man, wonderful teacher, wonderful mentor. He must have influenced many lives.

Among a constellation of phenomenal teachers at Phillips Andover in the early 90´s, Dr. Germain was my favorite. We hadn´t spoken in years, but I think of him often when doing some of my favorite things: hiking, paddling, reading, contemplating obtuse Dylan lyrics (why "Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts", Dr. Germain?) Thank you for your mentorship, your glorious sense of the absurd, and for your elevation and defense of all that is worthwhile in the world. My heartfelt condolences to...

My condolences to the family. Ed (or Dr. Germain as many called him) was my house counselor in Taylor East during his first year at PA and my senior year. We quickly became more than a teacher and a student. We became friends. I have fond memories of our times together, the stories he told, and the advice he gave to me. I´ll never forget Ed contacting me after I graduated to come to PA to see a reading of his friend Gary Snyder that he had arranged on campus. Afterward, we went to the Andover...
