Edward-Glennon-Obituary

Edward M. Glennon

Obituary

Glennon, Edward M. age 85, of La Quinta, Calif., formerly of Minnetonka, Minn., passed away on April 24, 2009. Ed was a nationally recognized trial lawyer and a founding partner of the Minneapolis law firm Lindquist & Vennum. He litigated cases of local and national significance on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, in substantive matters encompassing railroad law; commercial and general business law; employment law; civil and securities fraud; professional negligence; and personal injury. Among his many accomplishments was representing the NFL Players Association in landmark antitrust litigation that struck down the "Rozelle Rule," which had restricted the movement of players among football teams, and ushering in modern-day player free agency. Ed received numerous professional honors and awards during his 61 years as a practicing attorney, including recognition in "Best Lawyers in America" and "Super Lawyers," fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers, membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates, and tenure as president and executive committee member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel. Ed's remarkable legal skills, humor and loyal friendship will be forever missed by his family, by Lindquist & Vennum colleagues, and by the fraternity of trial lawyers. Ed was one of the funniest human beings on the planet, and his passing brings to an end recurring violations of long- settled fashion rules, torture of foreign languages, and shanking of golf balls in physics-defying manners. He leaves a legacy of public service; unwavering integrity; courage during adversity; concern for the collective good; and advocacy for the common person. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patricia; daughters, Sue and Betsy; son, Tom (Joan); grand- children, Maddy Alexeeva, Andrew, Lauren, Alex and Jamie Glennon; stepdaughter, Caitlin Lettman (Mike); brother, Bill (Kay); nephews, Mike, John and Mark; and his revered Lindquist & Vennum "family." A memorial reception celebrating Ed's life and career achievements will be held on Wednesday, May 27, at 4:30 p.m. at the Minneapolis Club, 729 Second Ave. S., Minneapolis. Memorials may be directed to the Lindquist Apartments, c/o The Link, 1210 Glenwood Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55405, (612) 871-0748, www.thelinkmn.org.
