Mr. Edward Hackett was born on August 16, 1933 in Bradley, SC. He was the son of Joel Bailey Hackett and Lula Frazier Hackett. He was called home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2015. He attended Greenwood County Public Schools and was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church where he served as a Trustee. He also served his community as a volunteer fireman with the Promised Land Fire Department. He loved serving people. He was caring, and generous. A friend to everyone he met. His gifts in culinary arts far exceeded those taught in culinary schools. Of the many legacies he leaves behind, he is known far and wide for his famous Hash, BBQ Ribs, Catfish Stew, Turtle Stew and homemade sausage. He retired from AM Tuck Construction as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He also worked part time for Wilson Brothers Construction, Herbert Anderson Construction and Moss Trucking Company. In 1951 he married the love of his life Jessie Mae Moss Hackett. They were married for 63 years and had 5 beautiful children. Edward Hackett Jr., who preceeded him in death. Left to cherish his memories are two daughters, Mary Alice Duckett (Charles) of Charlotte, NC, Petrina Martin, of Boston, MA and 4 sons Bennie Hackett, of Greenwood, SC, Darryl Hackett (Felicia), of Springfield, VA, Keith Harrison (Tracy), of Greenwood, SC, and Joel McGraw, of Bradley, SC. He also leaves behind two godsons, Jose (Young) Hamilton, Fayetteville, NC and Radis "Ray" Paster, Prattville, AL. He is survived by three sisters, Mary Alice Hurst, of Philadelpia, PA, Gracie Coward, of Bradley, SC, Gutquta Booker, of Fresno, CA and one brother Rev. David Connor of Greenwood, SC. He was loving grandfather to ten grandchildren Quinessa Hackett, Justin Martin, Zion Martin, Blynthia Hall, Michael Duckett, Roshelle Duckett, Tracy Beard, Vanshay Hackett, Benique Hackett, Shontavious Hackett and eleven great grandchildren. 9 Sister-in-laws, Lillie Bell Connor, Ethel Aiken, Dorothy Quarles, Alma White, Izola Alexander, Gladys Belcher, Jackie Ali, Patricia Moss, and Geraldine Moss. 6 Brother-in-laws, Oliver Aiken, James Quarles, Thomas White, Leroy Alexander, Wesley Moss and Charles Moss and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 12:00 Noon At The Mt. Zion AME P.L.E.A.D. Center, conducted by Pastor James Louden, III. The body will be placed in the church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home and will receive friends at the Chapel of Robinson & Son Mortuary, Inc. from 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, April 6, 2015.
