Dr. Edward K. Hahn, DDS

Colleyville, Texas - Dr. Edward K. Hahn, DDS, 91, passed away October 20, 2021 in Fort Worth. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 23, 1930. Dr. Hahn studied at John Carroll University where he received his undergraduate degree followed by a DDS at Case Western Reserve University in 1956. On June 25, 1956, Dr. Hahn married the love of his life, Doris May Monus in the Old Stone Church on Cleveland's Public Square. At graduation, Dr. Hahn received a direct regular United States Air Force Commission as 1st Lieutenant in the Dental Corps from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He then completed his dental internship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. In 1957 he was promoted to Captain and transferred to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland as a Prosthetics Officer. In the early 1960's Dr. Hahn taught as a clinical instructor at his alma mater's School of Dentistry at Case Western Reserve University. He practiced dentistry in North Richland Hills, Texas from 1964-2013. Afterwards he maintained a practice in Grapevine, Texas until 2015.
Throughout his career, he was active serving on the board of directors for the Tarrant County College Dental Hygiene program and as a member of the medical education committee for Medical City North Hills Hospital. He also served as an advisor for the Fort Worth District Dental Assistants Organization, advisor for the clinical examiner at Tarrant County College, liaison for the Tarrant County Dental Assisting Dental Hygiene Program and as vice chairman of the credentials committee and chairman of the ethics committee for Medical City North Hills Hospital. He is also the author of the book "The Health of the Dentist" which was published in 1957.
He received awards which include the Distinguished Service Award by Medical City North Hills Hospital in 1989 and an Outstanding Service to the Dental Profession Award by the Fort Worth District Dental Society in 1995. In 2005, Dr Hahn was recognized at the annual Physicians Gala for his 40 years of service to the medical staff and to the Northeast Tarrant Community. In 2005 he was recognized for 50 years of Service in the Field of General Dentistry. The Texas Dental Association recognized him for 60 years of service to the Profession of Dentistry.
Dr. Hahn had several interests. His travels included visits to Hawaii, NW Canada and Mexico City. His most extensive trip was traveling from England by train through France and northern Europe into Russia and all the way to Lake Baikal in Siberia. He also had a love of cars primarily from the 40's and 50's since he grew up pumping gas and detailing cars at his father's gas station in Cleveland. In his teenage years customers allowed him the opportunity to drive their "fancy" cars for taking out dates. Buicks were his favorite. He also loved airplanes, especially World War 2 aircraft, having been 11 years old when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He attended air shows whenever possible and the Corsair was one of his many favorites.
Preceded in death by his wife, Doris Hahn, he is survived by: Son, Edward Hahn, Jr. and wife Kathy. Grandson, Karl and wife Nga Dinh, Grandson Nathan, Granddaughter, Kristina Gauna and husband Nate. Daughter, Sheryl Smith and husband Charlie. Granddaughter, Jessica Rattan and husband Cory, Great grandson, Shane. Granddaughter, Crissy Smith, Great Granddaughters, Kendra, Kinley and Kristin. Sister-in-law, Grace Suchy and husband Ed and several nieces and nephews. Cousin, Craig Hahn and wife Betty.
The Honor Cremation Memorial will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, Colleyville from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tarrant County College. Dr. Hahn's passion was helping students in the Tarrant County College Dental program. Donations will establish a scholarship in his name to assist future students. Please send donations through the website, "
