Not sure what to say?

Dear Phyllis, Kaye, Anne and all those "pesky little brothers"...I was so saddened to hear about your husband, and father, and father to all of us who called Selkirk home. What an inspiration and model for so many students over so many years. He had a wonderful professional balance of respect and caring, stern and strict, fun and fun loving, and was an inspiration to many of us who became teachers. What a lovely person he was. Fill some of your loss with my love. Fondly, Leslee...

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Hambrook dying. My condolences go out to the entire Hambrook family. I can remember my sophomore year at Selkirk I thought he was my homeroom teacher, as I was in his office so many times. He even took the time to go drive out to our house and talk to my mom to see what was going on. You sure don’t see that kind of personal involvement nowadays.

He was always very fair with all of us in high school. All of my memories of him were very positive....

Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Dear Hambrook family:

I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers as I know how great a loss you have as a husband and father and a great human being. Mr. Hambrook as he is most affectionately known , even moreso than Herb, was a great teacher and person. He taught us all that education and respect for others was a way of life and the fiber of our beings. I can remember all the events and times spent at the Hambrook's home in Ione and they were strict, but loving and...

Dear Hambrook Family,
Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss. Mr. Hambrook was truly one of the nice guys.
When I was a junior he convinced me to stay in school rathrer than go into the military. I shouldn't say convinced me, rather he forbid me from going into the Navy.
He always kept the first home run ball hit out of Selkirk field in his office. Since I was the one that hit it, I always tried to steal it whenever I was in his office. The last words...

Dear Hambrooks,
I am having trouble sending this for some reason so will try again.
Mr. Hambrook, what a great influence he had on our young adolescent lives. His approach was gentle and kind yet we knew when not to cross the line. He was very tolerant with my mischievious friends and I when we stayed overnite in the girls shower room, yes he caught us and were we scared!! The next year in college our choir toured some small schools, Selkirk was among them. He mentioned there...

To the Hambrook Family
I send my Condolences to all of you. Your husband and father definitely left his mark in this world. He helped so many young people and because of him I'm sure some made better choices
I remember his twinkling smile and yet you knew not to cross any lines, a good combination.
My friends and I got caught after staying overnight in the girls shower room at school by Mr. Hambrook, Were we ever scared!! The next year, I was in the choir at SCC and we...

The first time I met Mr. Hambrook he would not let me in school for having long hair. It became a running joke over the years as he grew his hair longer than mine ever was in high school. I hope he realized what a positive effect he had on many lives. The short time I spent in Ione gave me a completely different personal perspective. I have always been grateful to him and his family for that.

My condolences to the Hambrook family. Herb is one of the main reasons people will remember their Selkirk experience as a positive one.
