Edward James Adamczyk passed peacefully while surrounded by loved ones in the afternoon on Monday, November 3rd, 2025.

Born December 1st, 1959 at 10 lbs 6 oz, Ed was a dedicated Catholic, and grew up in Old Brooklyn, where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel and was named Mr. OLGC for his good grades and basketball and baseball excellence.

Ed had a lot of fun growing up with his brother Chuck and 4 sisters: Beverly, Mary Lee, Laurie, and Carrie. While he said his parents “ran a tight ship” and kept him busy with chores, he also knew not to mess with his sister Bev when she was left in charge to babysit! Despite his busy schedule, Ed still found a way to play the  occasional prank on his sisters Laurie and Mary Lee, but always looked after his baby sister Carrie.

Ed was a star pitcher and as his favorite artist Bruce Springsteen (who he saw 10 times) would say, “he could get that speedball by ya and make ya look like a fool!” He went on to pitch for St. Ignatius and Cleveland State University, where he studied civil engineering, received his MBA, and also met his wife, another civil engineering student and loving mother to his three children, Linda.

After Linda passed in 2007, Ed later met Mary Kay Flament, who reminded Ed how to have a good time. They married in 2014, and Mary Kay was a faithful and loving wife, sharing many wonderful memories, traveling and having fun together until his passing.

As a civil engineer and project manager, Ed worked on several bridges and highways throughout Cuyahoga county. He was recognized for his outstanding work on the restoration of the Anthony Wayne bridge in Toledo, and in 2018 he was named Engineer of the Year by the Cleveland chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

One of Ed’s favorite pastimes was sharing stories with family members and acting them out. Ed was a huge Cleveland sports fan who had season tickets in the Dawg Pound, and went to countless Guardians and Cavaliers games over the years. He took pride in his yard and always had pristine landscaping. He was a beloved neighbor, ready to lend a helping hand (or chainsaw!), and would regularly help family members and neighbors with his engineering expertise and handyman skills.

If you asked Ed, he was most proud to be a father to his three children; Kevin, Michael, and Michelle, and grandfather to Sophie. He passed on his baseball knowledge to his boys Kevin and Mike who played at Westlake High School, and his son Mike also took the engineering route to become a Chemical Engineer, while Kevin works as a Wildlife Biologist and Dr. Michelle is an anesthesiologist.

Not sure what to say?

My deepest sympathies for Ed´s family. I worked with Ed in the early 2000´s as a young engineer and learned a lot from him in this business. More importantly I learned how great a human being Ed was. We would always catch up on life and work at OTEC each year. I always looked forward to his kindness, mentorship, and great sense of humor and smile. I am grateful you were a part of my life Ed. May God welcome you into his kingdom.

Dear Mary Kay, Kevin, Michael and Michelle,

We are heartbroken for all of you. Your Dad was a kind, thoughtful, and generous man that we were lucky to have as a friend and neighbor for 25 years. He was the kind of neighbor everybody hopes for. He will be missed by us and all who knew him.
We are sorry that we are unable to attend his services as we are out of town. We went into the local St Ignatius church and lit a candle for Ed. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy.

Ed and I served on an ASCE committee not long after I relocated to Cleveland. Ed was kind and generous with his time and humor, helping me get acclimated to the Northeast Ohio engineering community. From the other remembrances shared here, and from the lovely obituary, Ed led a life well-lived and didn’t miss opportunities to serve others. My deep condolences to Ed’s family and friends.

I had been providing care for Ed the past 6 months. I admired his never give up attitude. Up until the last two weeks we were still working on leg strengthening religiously. I was privileged to have so many deep conversations covering so many topics from life to spiritual strength. I will miss him. Mary Kay, Kevin, Mike and Michelle. Thank you for treating myself and other caregivers as family. You´ll never know how much that meant to me. Cleave to each other as you navigate from here on....

Not only was Ed my cousin but my godson as well. So there was always a special connection between us. I always admired the way Ed and Linda raised their three children, and as Ed continued to do so as a single parent after Linda’s death. Family has always been at the center of Ed’s life. And I know his beautiful family will carry this on in Ed’s memory. With you all.
Rest in peace, Ed.

My deepest sympathies to Ed’s family . He came to my hair salon always with a big smile and laughter . Eternal with our lord and savior . Our true existence. Tests in peace .

Oh, Mary Kay and family, my heart brakes for all of you. What a great man he was. I know how much you loved him and how much he loved you. Now he is in the arms of Jesus. Free from illness. I will be praying for all of you❤

Sending our deepest sympathies to Mary Kay and family. We will be keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Dawn Costello Galang and family
