Clavin Funeral Home - Brooklyn Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edward J. Jones, who passed away on January 30, 2025, in Deerfield Beach, Florida, at the age of eighty-eight.

Edward was born on June 17, 1936, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY, to John and Viola Jones. He was the beloved brother of the late John J. Jones, surviving sister Margaret Jones. Edward grew up in Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Prep, graduating in 1954. He went on to earn his degree from Fordham University in 1958. His commitment to service was evident through his time in the ROTC, where he served for three and a half years. Edward dedicated over 33 years of his career to the New York Telephone Company. He spent a number of years as a radio broadcaster with a local radio station in South Orange, NJ and taught as a substitute teacher in New Jersey during his early retirement.

On December 26, 1970, he married the love of his life, Marcia Helgesen Jones, who preceded him in death. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising three children, Edward, Joseph, and Mary, along with stepchildren Michelle, Mark, and Alfred.

He was a devoted grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Joseph, Dylan, Chloe, Lily, Remi, Rafi, Eric, Andrew, Alex, Jenny, and Michaela.
Throughout his life, Edward lived in various places, including Brooklyn, NY up until 1970, Union, NJ (1970-1973), South Orange, NJ (1973–2002), Merritt Island, FL (2002–2010), Toms River, NJ (2010–2019), and Marietta, GA (2020–2022), before settling at the Horizon Club in Deerfield Beach, FL.

Edward was an avid NY Mets fan with a lifelong passion for the sport. He loved Corvettes and was also deeply interested in model trains, collecting, and building intricate train sets and stations. A devoted Catholic, Edward lived his life in faith, raising his children with the same love and devotion to Christ that he cherished so dearly.

We mourn the loss of our beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, but we also celebrate the life he lived and the joy he brought to so many. We love you, Edward, and we take comfort in knowing that you are reunited with your beloved Marcia in heaven. May God bless you and keep you in His eternal care.
