Life Reflections

Edward Jerome Johnson was the third and youngest son of Johnetta W. Johnson.  He was born January 26, 1966 in Knoxville Tennessee.  Edward passed away unexpectedly but peacefully of natural causes alone in his home at the Villas at North Landing in Jacksonville Beach, Florida on March 6, 2021.

He was a very likable, nice, loving, and caring man who dearly loved and adored his mother. He phoned or texted her daily to say, “Hello, how are you, just checking-in to wish you a wonderful day, I’m ok”, except the last two days of his earthly life because he had received and was answering a heavenly call from his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His daily check-ins will be missed by his mother.

At an early age Edward accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN.  He was an active member, attending Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, weekly prayer service and he served as a Junior Usher during church services.  He was also an active Boy Scout until he graduated from high school, almost becoming an Eagle Scout.

Edward was educated in the Knox County School System in Knoxville, TN. He attended Sarah Moore Green School, Park Junior, Vine Middle, and he graduated from Austin East High School Class of 1984.  He was a member of the marching band and he enjoyed his architectural classes.

After high school Edward attended the Tennessee State University and he was in the marching band. While attending college Edward worked part time at the Opryland Hotel and United Parcel Service in Nashville Tennessee.

After college Edward relocated to Jacksonville, Florida and was employed by Marriott for over twenty-seven years.  He became Director of Services at the Sawgrass Marriott Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa in Ponte Vedra, Florida and became an avid golfer and lover of the game.

Edward loved playing golf and valued his golfing teammates very highly.  He would text photos of himself smiling and happy on the golf course and driving the golf cart several times a week to cheer his mother.

After living a full and blessed life Edward responded to God’s call to leave the troubles of this earthly world and transition into eternal spiritual freedom and peace in the heavenly kingdom with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ where he would live forever in his heavenly kingdom.

He will be remembered and missed by his former co-workers and associates of Marriott, and his Sawgrass friends, his neighbors and friends in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Edward leaves behind on this earth to cherish his love and memories; his mother, Johnetta W Johnson; brothers Dwayne Alex Johnson (Chuckie), Northport, Alabama; and Arthur D. Johnson, Jr, San Diego, California. Niece, Justine D. Johnson, San Diego, California.  Nephews, Jarondrell D. and Johvonte Cole, Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Aunts; Altheria (Michael) Jones and Family, Latham, MD and Willeta Cummings and Family, Jacksonville, Florida.  Uncle Ulysses Washington, Washington, DC and a host of cousins and extended family members and friend Lorraine Norris Jacksonville, Florida.

Edward’s special friends include Vera Cherry and Martin Montoyo (co-workers), Tommy Ayers, Steve Naff and Rick Brewster.  (Golf buddies) Debi Bishop (former supervisor, mentor, and longtime friend) Lisa Pertrine, Sally Bareman, Lisa Guadagna and Sue Barfield (close friends).

Edward, you have a good soul. It was a pleasure to work for you and I will miss your wonderful laugh. Sad to see you go so early in life.

Edward was a wonderful and caring person. He had a generous heart that touched so many people. You could always count on him for a big smile and a laugh. It was a pleasure working together with him at the Sawgrass Marriott. He will truly be missed. Rest in peace Edward.

It's been quite some time since I've seen Ed in person, but some of my favorite memories were chasing that little white ball around the golf course with him. I was (and still am) a lousy golfer, but he was a great golf partner. I enjoyed his easy going demeanor and his great sense of humor. He was an amazing individual who touched a lot of lives no matter how long they may have had the privilege of being in his orbit. All of us who had the opportunity to know him are better off for the...

They say only the good die young. You were definitely one of the good ones, Ed. And you were too young to leave us, but I am thankful you left in peace and blessed to have known you. Thank you for the recent happy birthday message, it meant a lot that day and means so much more now. Much love to you and those who survive you but know we all feel better knowing you are in heaven and looking out for us.

EJ was a great friend, co- worker,& golf buddy. He always had a big smile on his face. He will be missed and never forgotten. Rest In Peace by friend. ♂
