Not sure what to say?

I am sorry about the loss of another great Callan. I remember at my sister's MaryJo's wedding, Eddie grabbed the microphone and belted out the best 'Summertime' ever! Too bad video tape wasn't invented at that time (1970)!

Every so often, when I'd pick up the phone I'd hear, "Rita, this is the President", and I'd know that it was Papa calling. The "president" would then procede to invite me to dinner at the white house. This was just one of Papa's many jokes that never seemed to get old. He was so fun to talk to and play with. Papa was a wonderful grandfather and I will greatly miss my calls from the president.

Edward loved to tease the in-laws. Whenever he phoned our house and I answered he'd say, "Damian, we're right around the corner...we'll be there in two minutes!"

Edward, you will be missed.

To the Kelliher Family, so sorry to hear of the loss of a very special man, husband & Father. My prayers and thoughs go out to the whole family. God Bless

My Dad, Big Ed, was always the life of the party. He loved to get together with family and friends and laugh and sing and dance until everything climaxed with a robust singing of the family anthem "Summertime". When I was a kid I thought the song was actually written for us because "your Daddy's rich and your Mama's good lookin" seemed like a statement of fact. It's a bitter December day without my Dad. Let's all get together and sing "Summertime".

Another fond memory I have of Papa, besides the great cannon at the lake, was that every time I hugged him, Papa would groan and pretend that I had squeezed him so hard, he nearly had to visit the hospital. This always brought a smile to my face.

OH PAPA. I Love you very much. I will never forget the heart warming summers in eagles mere, or summer afternoons of my childhood when you would pick mary kathleen and i up on sullivan street and treat us to the latest disney movie. I especially remember an american tale, as tears come to my eyes. A young man could not have asked for such a kind loving and wonderful grandfather. i will cherish the memories you have betowed upon me forevermore. Heaven truely has a wonderful addition....

Two days ago, Aunt Ellen remarked upon how fitting it was to attend a children's mass on the day that Papa died, as "he always was one of the kids." As one of the kids myself, I could not agree more with this sentiment. My, and I'm sure my brothers', fondest memories of Papa involve clamboring over an old cannon in order to shoot monsters down at the children's lake. Without Papa's fun-loving imagination and sense of adventure, who knows how dangerous the monster infestation may have become.

My prayers and sympathies to Ronnie, her children and grandchildren. My cousin Ed was a wonderful human being and a great American.
