Edward Burdick Lathrop, 71, of Dimock Township, PA, died February 9, 2010 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City after a brief illness. Born September 28, 1938, on the family farm in Dimock Township, he was a lifelong farmer. He retired after 10 years of driving a snowplow and working on the roads of Bridgewater Township, PA. In the late 1950s, he was a stock car racer at Five Mile Point in Kirkwood. He was a man who could fix anything he put his hands on. He was also a man with many friends from all walks of life. Ed never met a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Lathrop; four children, Nancy Dooling, Chenango Bridge, Judith and her husband, Michael Samsel, West Corners, Edward C. Lathrop, Dimock Township, Mindy and her husband, James Holbrook, Guildford, Surrey, England; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by his niece, Carrie Miers of Norwich. He was predeceased by a son, Todd Lathrop, in 1986; his sister, Susan Miers of Norwich, in 2008; and his parents, Ralph and Lila Lathrop, Dimock Township.
Friends may call from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, 64 S. Main St., Montrose, PA. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Ralph Christianson, Pastor of the First Universalist Church of Brooklyn, PA, officiating. Burial will be in the Burdick Cemetery, Dimock Township.
