The Favorite Uncle
Edward Lichtschein had master's degrees in physics and engineering, designed software for eSpeed, and prided himself on solving challenging computer glitches that stumped others. He was also a favorite uncle to nine nieces and nephews, ages 8 to 33.

"He was 35, but in certain ways he was a kid at heart," said Vera Glatt, his sister.

With his older nieces and nephews, Mr. Lichtschein, of Park Slope, Brooklyn, swapped videos and CD's, and critiqued movies, "The Simpsons" and rock music. With the younger ones, he took nature walks in a wildlife preserve behind his brother Mark's home in Teaneck, N.J. Everybody always received cartoon sketches from him parodying family members and family life.

Two cousins, Yoni Glatt, 19, and Avi Lichtschein, 15, have been particularly despondent over his death, Ms. Glatt said. "They were angry at us for accepting it."

Not sure what to say?

Twenty years have gone by and the pain of that horrible day has not gone away. I worked with Edward on the 103rd floor of Tower 1. Edward was a true gentleman. Soft spoken, reserved, easy going, and very friendly. We both shared an intense love of writing and many times discussed how we were progressing with the particular piece that occupied us at that moment in time.

Today is the twentieth anniversary of that horrible day that took him away. Rest in peace my friend.

I remember.

He caught the depths of sarcasm with his unique understanding and joined the rest of our crazy group with occasional tears from laughing so hard.

He loved music, but always the far out and deeply insightful type.

Always missed

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.

I had just met Edward on the day he moved into the cubicle directly across from mine. He was a quiet man, very friendly, and easy to talk to. After he unpacked all of his belongings that day and was settled in I happened to notice something he had placed on the top of his desktop PC screen. When I looked more closely at the object he saw me and laughed. I asked if it were truly what looked like a bunch of balled up feet and in fact it was. It was a memento from a project he worked on at...

Ari,
I love you so much and think of you daily.

Ed, I hope you are resting in peace and know that we all miss you. Your old friend and fellow engineer....

I am remembering Edward today and praying for comfort and peace for all who were directly affected by 9/11/01. I am saddened greatly because the hate and violence never seems to stop, but we must remember that peace begins at home.

Laurie Taylor (Iowa). Ed's distant cousin.

Although i didnt know you all that well, and i was only your cousin, it really hit me when you died because it affected everyone around me, my mother Aviva and my bubby and all my cousins and great-aunts and uncles. I would always see them crying, and it make me sad too. I do have one memory of you, we were at Rami's bar-mitzvah and you were teaching me and a bunch of us a game. I thought it was so cool that instead of being with all the adults, you were with us. I really miss you and hope...
