A good man, a good doctor, a good friend , a good life.

Ed and I were roommates (along with Bob Buntin) in our senior year at Vanderbilt eons ago. By and large, it was a memorable year. Ed and Bob were diligent and successful chemical engineering students, and they lifted my GPA to a slightly more respectable level by their example. Ed was a gentle and interesting person who obviously was going to have an admirable medical career. I worked in the clinical lab directed by "Dr Lit", as we fondly called him. Although my time in the lab was brief, our paths seemed to often cross in the hospital. "Dr Lit" was a true southern gentleman, medical leader and true lighthouse of ethics and professionalism. He made himself available to us all as a friend. He sought the "higher ground" in all endeavors and encouraged everyone to do the same, not only in words but in action. He was the perpetual professor to those who would listen...
