Edward Moore Obituary

Edward E. Moore, Jr., a prominent real estate developer in St. Tammany Parish, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He died at his home of natural causes. Ed was born in Shreveport, LA on October 22, 1937 to Mary Virginia Hastings Moore and Edward Eley Moore, Sr. Ed was the devoted husband of Sandra Falk Moore, formerly of New Orleans, LA. He will be missed by his children, Scott Edward Moore of Houston, TX and Amanda Moore Sturdivant (Jay) of Covington, LA. He was preceded in death by his son, William Hazzard, III. His pride and joy was his grandson, Jack Edward Sturdivant. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Michael Falk, and nephew, Peter Falk. Ed grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. At LSU he studied mechanical engineering and was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity and a four year member of the Air Force ROTC. After graduating, he went into flight school and then into two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a Captain and a Squad Commander, and very proud of his service in the United States Air Force. After working for Kaiser Aluminum in Africa, Ed returned to New Orleans and started his own real estate business and construction firm. He relocated his business in 1977 to the Northshore in Louisiana. Ed stayed active in his business until his death. He also loved being associated as a broker with the Sterling Properties firm. Ed was a devoted sportsman and Louisiana conservationist. He was also one of the first volunteer divers at the Aquarium of the Americas. He loved football, especially his LSU Tigers. Ed was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served on the Vestry, Building Committee, Cuba Mission Committee, and as a Lay Eucharist Minister. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 12 Noon at Christ Episcopal Church, 129 N. New Hampshire St., Covington, LA 70433. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the church in Ed's honor. An online guest book is available at https://www.neptunesociety.com/location/new-orleans-cremation.

Sandra, Scott and Amanda; Ed was a true friend for many years, back to his Kaiser Aluminum years in Chalmette through our adventures at Mariner's Village. I still use some of the advice he gave me as a retired Air Force pilot. We enjoyed our too few hours of fishing and hunting. I give thanks for having known him.

I met Ed when our Christ Church group of six made a mission trip to Cuba in July. We turned out to be roommates. What a bright, engaging, caring man! It was a great pleasure to spend time with Ed, and he spoke often and with love of his family. I was looking forward to our new friendship in this life, but will look forward instead to being with him in our afterlife.

My prayers and sympathies to Ed's family. He was my team leader on the Friday night volunteer dive team at the Aquarium of the Americas. Rest in Peace and keep blowing those bubbles.
