Beinhauer-Fryer Funeral & Cremation Service Obituary

Edward Carl 'Sonny' Nowicki Sr. passed away July 22, 2022, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, where he made his final stand against cancer. Edward was born March 8, 1945, in Scott Township, PA, to Edward A. Nowicki (deceased), and Rita Hartz (deceased). He graduated from Chartier's Valley High School as part of the class of 1963, and shortly after, joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably from 1963-1967, reporting to ships USS Taylor and USS Philip, taking part in the Vietnam war and other overseas campaigns. Ed came back home and through mutual friends, met his best friend and the love of his life, Fay, whom he would marry in 1969 and together with her raise their three children in Heidelberg, PA. Ed was a loyal and hard worker, and provided his certified Operating Engineer services for many years at Armour Meats and Gimbels department store, before finally settling at The Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh, where he was a maintenance worker until retiring in 2010. He was a dedicated member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 95, regularly taking part in the various meetings. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends at Muzzy's II in Heidelberg, PA, traveling yearly with Fay to the Outer Banks (NC), sitting at home in the dining room or downstairs, listening to talk radio and 1950s hits, and sharing snacks and snuggles with his granddaughters. Above all, Ed was a beloved husband and devoted father and pap pap. Ed was responsible and dependable and made sure to be present and involved in his children's activities, from Cub Scouts to dance recitals. Edward is survived by his wife Fay (Mehok) Nowicki; his children, Edward (Jennifer) Nowicki Jr, Douglas (Leah) Nowicki, and Jenny Lynn Nowicki; his grandchildren Francesca, Anita, Victoria and step-grandchildren Roman, Sydney, and Tristan; his sister Barbara Balach and brothers Timothy and James; his nieces and nephews Timothy, Laura, Eddie, Richard, Casey, and Vicki. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Leo at birth, his sister Beverly and granddaughter Ava Marie. Edward 'Sonny' Nowicki will be forever loved and missed, and carried in our hearts… Visitation by BEINHAUER-FRYER, 412.221.3800 (see services information). There will be no church services. His final resting place will be at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
