I had not kept up with EJ over the years, but when I got my first "real" job out of college it was as Advertising Manager for Gilmore's Department Store. EJ was our Kalamazoo Gazette rep. He knew I was green as could be. Over the next two years he was not only our rep, but a teacher and a friend. Just by working with him I picked up on a thousand things I never would have known. If we got jammed up on deadlines or some ad fell apart at the last minute, EJ was there helping come up with...

I worked for may years with E.J at the Kalamazoo Gazette. He was great guy who always had a smile on his face. He came out to my house a few years back for a boat ride with old Gazette reps.

I am heart-fully sorry to learn of EJ's passing. He was the best! I am most thankful for the times mentored me when I was just a goofy rookie salesman at the Gazette and beginner parent with a family. I will always remember his million dollar smile, incredible sense of humor, his way of spinning a story but mostly his generous heart. He is missed. Peace be with you, Barbara Jean, and your family.
