Not sure what to say?

Loved so much staying at the Red Lion Motels, Red lion Motor Inns and Thunderbird Motor Inns when I was a kid in the seventies. I loved this chain so much espcially when they branched into Motor Inns and the manard roof design and either the signature color purple for Thunderbird and red for Red Lion. Thank you for brining the vision of this chain alive and to prominence!! So glad at least Red Lion is still around

I knew and worked with Ed at the Thunderbird/Red Lion Inns. After many years with the organization and opening up 26 of their properties, I moved on to another chain for a short time, and then on to my own business. I attribute many of my successes to Ed because of his "Can Do" Attitude that I learned from him at a young age.
I remember Suzy and Lonnie and his Wife Gloria. They were all kind to me, and I will never forget Ed and his family.

I did not know Mr. Pietz on a very personal level but I was fortunate enough to have work in one of his beautiful buildings (Park Plaza One). The first day I walked in to the lobby I was just in awe he was a visonary and his buildings reflected it. Everyday I saw him at Prestons Deli he always smiled even though he did not know what office I worked in. He made you feel welcomed. Gloria, Lonnie, Suzie and Family, We send our sympathy. We have fond memories of our times with him. Ed helped Jill get her first job during college in the 70's and she always appreciated his help. We shall all miss him. He was quite a guy. We remember the stories of him growing up with the Nelson neighbors and his adventures with Bill Nelson. Sincerely, Jill Haldeman Cawley and Lewis Haldeman

Ed was very good to me and my wife valerie, the world will not be the same without him. My wife served him for many years and grew very fond of him. He helped me start my own business and my life was changed forever thank you Ed, And God bless you always.

I just wanted to offer my condolences on the passing of Mr. Pietz. My mother (Esther Gove) worked for Ed and Todd as their primary book keeper for many years as they built the Red Lion chain. When my mother became ill with leukemia (which claimed her life in 1972) Ed and Todd continued to pay her weekly salary even though she was not able to work full time due to the illness. I believe that was just an example of the type of man Ed was. May he rest in peace.
