For so many years Ed was the dearest of friends, a brilliant analyst and terrifically knowledgeable guy with a heart of gold. Ferociously dedicated to empowering the powerless -- and a terrific Uncle Eddie to our kids Sam and Sarah Laties. During his time as business manager at The Children's Bookstore we were at our most successful. I will miss his insightful advice and devilish wit, but most of all his deeply well-meaning embodied presence. His work will long outlive him.

I always came away from exchanges with Ed Sacks feeling more hopeful about society and our future. Kind, knowledgable, generous, and with a good sense of humor, he brought joy to so many. I will miss Ed.

Ed was one of the most helpful people we ever knew. About 25 years ago he helped us install our telephones in our house. The Apartment Watch column and Chicago Tenants Handbook helped many people--including us-- solve renter/landlord problems. He was one of a kind. What a great guy.
