Edward F."Eddie" Salin Edward F."Eddie" Salin, 84, of Rhinelander, Wis., died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at his home with his loving wife at his side. Ed was born Nov. 14, 1926, to Frank and Mary (nee Masluna) Salin. He was a lifetime resident of Rhinelander, graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1944. Ed joined and served two years in the Navy. After the Navy he worked various jobs until he was employed at the Rhinelander Paper, after 44 years of service, he retired as a stock preparation superintendent in1989. Ed's greatest love, above all else was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and papa to them all. He was also an avid fisherman and talented carpenter/ craftsman. He touched many lives with his smile and humor, and made friends with whoever he met along the way. He will be truly missed. Ed is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Plouff), whom he married on June 17, 1950; their three loving daughters, Cheryl (Terry) Carlberg of Santa Fe, N.M., Kim (Mike) Spencer of Hudson, Wis. and Kelly (Bob) Smith of Bartlett, Ill.; six grandchildren, Heather Spencer (Dan Burnam) of Hudson, Wis., Ami (Gerson) Gutierrez of San Lucas, Guatemala, Jennie Spencer (Pete Orman) of Hudson, Wis., Breann Spencer (James Schieck) of River Falls, Wis., and Kyle and Adam Smith of Bartlett, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Zach, Maysa and Alex Burnam; a sister, Agnes Thompson of Rhinelander; many nieces and nephews; and his kitty, Skittles. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Ann Loesch, Elizabeth Edell and Martha Bertrand. A memorial Mass will be held Thursday, March 8, at 11:30 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church (St. Joseph's site), with Father Thomas Thakadipuram officiating. Visitation will be at church on Thursday, starting at 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. A memorial has been established in Eddie's name and may be directed to the family. I'm so sorry to hear about Papa Salin passing away. He was an amazing man, always with a smile for everyone. I have many good memories of summer days out at Squash Lake and hearing Papa's laughter ring out over the lake. He will be missed. Love, hugs, and prayers to you all.

He makes us smile when we remember those great times and fun conversations we had with him at the parties on the famous Smith deck! I'm so sorry to hear about Pappa Eddie's passing. He was a wonderful man & always treated me & my family very well. He even said I was his 4th daughter.
