Not sure what to say?

Hi Ted,
Interesting to piece together the history. I think my grandfather met yours at the Highland Y and they became friends. The Dales visited Searle's farm on Sundays as a social visit as I heard it. The kids played near the cows etc. in the late afternoon the families had an outdoor picnic, each family bringing their own meal. Was there a covered/screened in area with a picnic table or something? I don't recall hearing much about the orchard or apples except that Andy Lane was...

HI Nancy
We didn't realize our Dads both were at Mt Hermon the same time. My dad was class of '39. I assumed the Dales came out to the farm to buy apples. It was known as "Wolf Hill Orchards" comercially.
Best regards - Ted

Hi Ted and Barry (and Ed's family),
THanks both for your messages. I don't know why our families stopped the visits when we were all growing up. We heard about the Searles and the farm all the time, too. I guess work demands on the farm and at the laundry were pretty intense. My aunt Mary is 94 and still living in Spfld. She was part of those family visits long ago and was very pleased that we all connected in this way. My cousins also remember visiting the farm once or twice as...

To Nancy Dale
Hi I remember hearing the "Dale Bros. Loundry" radio ads. Someone would always say "hey, we know them. Heck of a nice family".
Andy Lane was a very familiar name. I never knew of your connection. thanks for the memories.

Bill Nichols (Sweet Pea)
I was too young to remember you very well. I do remember Janet and Jed. And of course your Mom Esther was our close friend and neighbor for years.
Thank you for the memories. Ted Searle

In celebrating Ed's life, it is comforting to consider the immortality in each of us. Ed lives on through his children and the friends he positively influenced. I am the grandson of Ed's next-door neighbors, the Perkins Family. At an impressionable young age, I spent all my summer and winter vacations at the Searles' Farm. Some indelible memories include:
- learning to drive on the Farmall Tractor
- toasting chive cheese sandwiches for lunch over the brush fire...

Dear Searle Family,

My thoughts are with you during this sad time.
My father, Russell Dale (of Longmeadow), was a good friend of Ed Searle over a lifetime. As children, my father and his family would visit the Searles on the farm on Sunday afternoons. (We have wonderful pictures.) Our grqndparents were good friends with Ed's father. My father also attended Mt. Hermon in the late 30's. My mother's cousin Andrew Lane learned about apple orchards from the Searle family and went on...

Dear Barry,
We are so very sorry to read of your dad's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We hope that in time you may find comfort and peace in your treasured memories.
