Not sure what to say?

This world has lost a warming and inspiring presence. Seldom has an intellect such as that of Dr. Shils been combined with a humane and friendly personality. His real interest in people and their development was combined with the ability of an entrepreneur to forge unusual accomplishements. His work with industrial leaders has enriched the dental industry. We will miss this friend, mentor and educator.

Dr. Shils was truly an amazing man. His strong ideals, enthusiasm for teaching, and dedication to giving are an inspiration to all. His numerous honors at Penn, accomplishments throughout Philadelphia, and worldwide achievements fail to do justice in recognizing all he has given as a mentor, leader, and friend. Amidst numerous experiences and facing many hardships, Dr. Shils continuously emerged to provide generocity, kindness, and hope to generation after generation. There are many qualities...

Over the past year I have had a most wonderful gift...getting to know Dr. Ed Shils. Yes, a gift. The gift of being touched by a superb human being. The gift of a man who, as teacher, genuinely loved, enjoyed and took pride in his students. The gift of a man who treated all he encountered with warmth, respect and dignity. The gift of a man who still believed in chilvalry and gentility. The gift of a man who lived life abundantly, joyfully, lovingly and completely without pretense. He was a...

DR. SHILS GREATLY INSPIRED ME AS MY PROFESSOR IN 1975. HE ALSO TAUGHT MY DAUGHTER AND WAS JUST AS MUCH AN INSPIRATION TO HER IN 2003. MY DAUGHTER GREATLY LOVED BEING A TEACHING ASSISTANT FOR HIM DURING HER SENIOR YEAR. WE WILL BOTH GREATLY MISS HIM. HE WAS A WONDERFUL EDUCATOR, AS WELL AS, A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING.

My husband Bryce and I met Dr Shils a few years ago and the memory of that visit is one my husband still talks about today. The impression he made on us is forever in our hearts and minds. Anyone that was fortunate enough to meet him and just be in his presence, is a better person today.

it was with the greatest sorrow that we learned of Ed's passing.I worked with Ed for many years within the DMA and have the greatest respect for his intellect, teaching ability and willingness to mentor people. He was truly a national treasure and will be greatly missed. our deepest sympathies to Shirley and his family and loved ones.

There will never be another Edward B. Shils. No one will ever match his passion, his intensity, and his love of others. Although I have known him for only ten short months, I have learned more from him than from any other teacher, professor, or person I have ever encountered. Those who were fortunate enough to have experienced Dr. Shils have been forever changed by his unique and genuine character and willingness to place his faith in others and watch them prosper. I hope that I can live the...

Dear Shirley and Family,
Having known Ed from the Wage Stabilization days, more than a half century ago, having negotiated on the other side with the first school district contract, having attended his fantastic annual presentations, we will have the mixed feelings of sorrow at your and our loss coupled with the privilege of having known Ed & Shirley.

While Ed's passing is a profound loss, the Lang family considers itself blessed to have known him. Ed was a friend, advisor and mentor to my father and myself. He will be remembered with fondness and great respect. Sheilah, myself, and the next generations of Langs in the dental industry offer our sincere condolences to Shirley and the rest of the family.
