When growing up I was never aware of the personal impact Mr. Spriggs had on civil rights for black-Americans. I was especially touched by the fact that he and his wife sheltered black baseball players and entertainers in North Dakota when they weren't allowed lodging elsewhere. It shows how all of us can make a positive difference in the lives of others in our own special way. I did not know Mr.Spriggs, but something in his smiling face made me read his obituary. What a full and interesting life he led! I especially loved that he and his wife provided lodging for players in the Negro Baseball League. The fact that the players couldn't stay in hotels made a real impression on me when we visited the museum in Kansas City. I sit here in amazement at all the changes this gentle man saw in his lifetime, and I wish we had been neighbors. God bless and keep him.
