Dr. Stopa was born on July 6, 1954 and passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Dr. Stopa received his undergraduate degree in physiology in 1976 and medical degree in 1980 from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at Manning Hall, 21 Prospect Street, Providence, RI at 11:00 a.m. Should friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to either: Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
I met Ed my first day at McGill University. He was one of the kindest people I ever met. My thoughts go out to his wife and children and grandchildren. It is wonderful to read about his accomplishments and how very cherished he was.

So very sorry to hear of your loss. Dr. Stopa was a role model to me as I was a student volunteer in the dept. of pathology at RI Hospital. He, along with pathology fellow Dr. William Klein, were inspirational for me as I pursued a career in research. Dr. Stopa was brilliant and larger than life. God bless.

Ed was a great mentor to me, and after being his neuropathology trainee, we remained friends for 20 years. He had a fantastic sense of humor, and gifted spot on life advise for me. He was a true role model, especially after I lost my father to cancer. You'll always be in my thoughts Ed, and bring a smile to my face.
