Edward Totten

Edward Totten, 72 of Hightstown, passed on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his home.  Born in Trenton he graduated from Drexel University with a degree in Engineering.  He worked for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (WMATA), retiring in 2015.  Before WMATA, Ed worked for Totten Farms, Conrail and Amtrak.

Son of the late Coleman and Evelyn Totten, Edward is survived by his two sons, Brian Totten of Valdez, AK and Steven Totten of Princeton; his grandchildren, Eloise and Ben Totten; his brothers, Douglas Totten, Ronald Totten and James Totten as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ed’s greatest joy in life was seeing his son’s follow their passions and providing opportunities to immerse themselves in these pursuits.  He introduced Brian to building and outdoor sports.  Family ski trips were a highlight of the year.  Brian’s two passions came together when Ed let Brian take the lead in building an 8-foot high half pipe for skateboarding. Ed and Brian were fortunate to explore the Northeast, Rocky Mountains, and Southeast together while skiing, snowboarding, kayaking and rafting.  Brian’s love of the outdoors eventually took him to Alaska, and Ed would regularly visit. After his retirement, Ed would spend time in Valdez each summer and winter and became a part of the community there.  Ed continued to enjoy the mountains, rivers, and riding his bike into his 70s.

Steve developed a love for soccer at a young age and Ed sought out the best soccer environments in New Jersey.  Ed travelled extensively to watch Steven play in places like Egypt, Mexico, Austria, Trinidad and Tobago and many other locations.  Ed found a way to attend just about every one of Steve’s college soccer games with the University of Virginia.  After Steve became a soccer coach at the high school and then college levels, Ed continued to attend as many games as possible looking forward to connecting after the games.

Cremation services were private.  A celebration of Ed’s life will be celebrated at a later date. Arrangement are under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
