Not sure what to say?

Ed made a difference in our community and in my life. It was an honor knowing him and working with him. Betty, sending you and Sara hugs and love from Florida.

To the Varney family, Connie, Raz, and I mourn Ed's passing and extend our deepest sympathies to you. We had the privilege of knowing Ed for the past eight years. I recall fondly the first time I met Ed on a hiking trip and he greeted me with a hearty "Hello there!" During the ensuing years, I got to know him during spring training baseball games, hiking trips, and periodic one-on-one lunches. I was amazed at his interest in and knowledge of a wide variety of subjects. Most of all, I was...

Fondly remembering the man dubbed "Barney Varney" by my sister, the casket salesman who became part of our family. Ed was a good man who we will miss very much. My sympathy to Betty, Adam, Sarah and the rest of the family.

My deepest sympathy to Betty, Adam and Sarah. Ed had so much integrity and modesty that I had no idea he had such an exemplary life. You should all be very proud. The depth of his character drew all of us who knew him into a most beautiful life well lived. He was an amazing man who never sought praise or recognition. His acts of generosity and kindness came from his heart. The world and all of us who had the privilege of knowing him have suffered a terrible loss. We will miss him always.

To the Varney family from The Brewitts in Exeter, NH. Many fond memories of Ed at the house. He always brightened our days with his great sense of humor. Regards from Tom Brewitt and Faith.

To the Varney Family - My association with Ed was through the many years we spent together in the Meredith Kiwanis Club and as I called it the professional begging campaign to raise well over $100K for charity. Ed was always there to support these causes and was one of the reasons I was proud to be a member with him. He made a difference by association and his deeds which set a great example for everyone that was fortunate enough to call him a friend.

To the Varney Family: On behalf of a grateful nation, and the Department of NH, VFW/Auxiliary District #7, we wish to acknowledge your loved one's service to our country, and send our deepest condolences on your loss. District #7 Chaplain, Cathy Burns

What truly great memories we have of our dear friend, Ed. Only one person greeted us with that mischievous smile & a hearty, "Well, hi there!" Our memories are many---those great dinners & theme parties at our house or moonlit sledding parties at yours; the day you & a chainsaw "notched" your basement door "just a little" to fit the ill fitting item you and my hubby, John couldn't get through the door!---The result wasn't received well by Betty!; Or the Christmas party at Betty's work when...
