Vonzel, Edward "Fast Eddie" of Minneapolis, born Feb. 5, 1931 and died Nov. 24, 2008. Eddie joined the Army in 1950 and was stationed in Korea in the Mule Division and then the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1953 he returned to Minneapolis. There, he worked downtown as a bartender in a number of bars, including Russel's, Nye's Polonaise and Doubledays, to name a few. In 1981, Eddie joined AA and was proud of his 27 years of sobriety. He enjoyed wagering on football & baseball, playing Power Ball & scratch-offs, hearing jokes – but enjoyed telling them more. Eddie will be deeply missed by family and friends. His family would like to thank Augustana Care Center and the staff and nurses for providing such great care and friendship. Eddie was preceded in death by parents, Joseph & Maryanna; brother, George Wandzel; and granddaughter, Christine Vonzel. Survived by son, Richard (Mary); grandchildren, Ruthann (David), Eric, Aron, Jacob, and their mother, Jenny Vonzel (Pat); great- grandchildren, Victorya and McKayla; sisters, Stella Blaido, Helen Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, and Virginia (William) Hunt; longtime friend, Joyce Pederson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation from 4:30 PM until the 7 PM service Monday at Augustana Care Center Chapel, 1007 E. 14th St., Mpls, (valet parking is available). Interment Ft. Snelling.
