Vonzel, Edward "Fast Eddie" of Minneapolis, born Feb. 5, 1931 and died Nov. 24, 2008. Eddie joined the Army in 1950 and was stationed in Korea in the Mule Division and then the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1953 he returned to Minneapolis. There, he worked downtown as a bartender in a number of bars, including Russel's, Nye's Polonaise and Doubledays, to name a few. In 1981, Eddie joined AA and was proud of his 27 years of sobriety. He enjoyed wagering on football & baseball, playing Power Ball & scratch-offs, hearing jokes – but enjoyed telling them more. Eddie will be deeply missed by family and friends. His family would like to thank Augustana Care Center and the staff and nurses for providing such great care and friendship. Eddie was preceded in death by parents, Joseph & Maryanna; brother, George Wandzel; and granddaughter, Christine Vonzel. Survived by son, Richard (Mary); grandchildren, Ruthann (David), Eric, Aron, Jacob, and their mother, Jenny Vonzel (Pat); great- grandchildren, Victorya and McKayla; sisters, Stella Blaido, Helen Hanson, Elizabeth Hanson, and Virginia (William) Hunt; longtime friend, Joyce Pederson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation from 4:30 PM until the 7 PM service Monday at Augustana Care Center Chapel, 1007 E. 14th St., Mpls, (valet parking is available). Interment Ft. Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred. Morris Nilsen Chapel 612-869-3226 www.morrisnilsen.com

Not sure what to say?

Eddie will be missed by all who knew him. What an amazing sense of humor; he was always so upbeat! He was a great friend to my Dad, (John) - we will always have wonderful memories of him. I am glad that we had the opportunity to visit him at Augustana a few months ago. My condolences to Rick & Family, as well as to Joyce.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. It was an honor to know Eddie for the past 4 years, I will miss the way he put a smile on the face of everyone he met.

My deepest sympathies to all of Eddie's family. Eddie has also been a member of my family for many, many years. While you don't always get to choose your family members, Eddie was most certainly a keeper. He's been so good to my mom and to all of us over the years. I will miss his witty sense of humor, his sweetness and our visits - I always had to double-check to be sure he scratched off the entire area on the tickets I brought him. He almost threw away some of the winners! And I'll...

Eddie i will missed you so much. It was a honor to be there for you. I will missed the twice day phone called. You were someone very close to me and special. I will missed you alot. Thank you for your love and care back to me. Pat really enjoyed the jokes and enjoyed talking with you. I love you. Jenny

In this time of sorrow, thoughts of sympathy, thoughts of comfort and thoughts of peace to your family. It was an Honor to care for Eddie at the Augustana Care Center. He will be deeply missed by staff and other residents. I will miss his "teasing" and jokes.

TO THE FAMILY OF EDDIE VONZEL, I'M SO VERY SORRY ABOUT YOUR LOSS, MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AT THIS TIME. GOD BLESS YOU.
