Not sure what to say?

Im so sorry to hear about this news. I was a student at Newfield Elementary School when Ed was Principal from 1994 to 1996. He was always such a nice man who loved working with children. I even have memories of a garden that he harvested in back of the school. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten! May he Rest In Peace!

So sorry to learn of Eddie's passing. We attended Valley Cottage Grammer school from 1st grade and then graduated from Nyack High School together in 1956. We were always good friends. In October 2016, Eddie and his wife Marilou hosted a great 60th HS reunion at their home in Delray Beach. Eddie organized a lovely, enjoyable get together for about 20 classmates many also transplants from NY to Florida. Rest in peace old friend. My sympathies go to all his family. Judy Hamblin

Mr. Whalen's family,
Although I only worked at Newfield for 2 years, my time there was amazing because of your leadership and kindness. My fondest memory of you is when I asked you to dress up the 100 day hero. You went above and beyond and made the 100th day of school such a wonderful memory for the students and staff.
Thank you Mr. Whalen! The rose o'sharon trees in my yard make me think of you always.

To the family of Principal Whalen -

He was our principal at Hindley school back in the 70's. I remember him well.

With his beard he always reminded me of a ship's captain!

He was a very kind man. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Go with God, Principal Whalen, and remember your family, friends and former Hindley students that are left behind to cherish your memory.

My favorite memory of Ed is the day a teacher at Newfield brought him an angry-looking little boy who had been misbehaving in class. Ed leaned down and whispered something to him. Suddenly, to everyone's disbelief, the boy grinned from ear to ear and skipped happily back to class. I asked Ed what he possibly could have said to change the course of this student's day. He replied, "I told him I have cake in my office and he can have some, but don't tell the teacher!" I never laughed...

To the Family of Ed Whalen,
We are saddened to learn of Ed's passing. We got to know him in his role as principal of Newfield Elementary. He had such a zest for life and was passionate in his role. May he rest in peace, and may his family be comforted by the wonderful memories of so many people of having known such a special man.

The Fereira Family

Sincere sympathy to Ed's family. Our four children were fortunate to attend Newfield School and our family was blessed to have enjoyed Mr. Whalen's company.
